The Shows


Robert Habermann brings the sounds of The Great American Songbook to life with three fabulous shows over three evenings (4 night stay) featuring the greatest magical songs from the 20th Century.

Show 1: George Gershwin


From song plugger to writer of his first big hit ‘Swanee’ for singer Al Jolson in 1919. George Gershwin, together with his brother Ira, wrote many worldwide hit songs including ‘I Got Rhythm’, ‘Summertime’, ‘Someone To Watch Over Me’, ‘They Can’t Take That Away From Me‘ and his final song ‘Love Is Here To Stay.’

The show also includes the songs ‘Fascinating Rhythm’, ‘They All Laughed’, ‘A Foggy Day’, and his masterpiece ‘Rhapsody In Blue’.

Show 2: Irving Berlin


Emigrating from Russia at the age of five, Irving Berlin’s incredible songs form what is known as The Great American Songbook,

Starting out as a singing waiter, Irving Berlin wrote his first big hit ‘Alexander’s Ragtime Band’. He then went on to write hundreds of hit songs for films and theatre. including such standards as: ‘Blue Skies’, ‘Cheek To Cheek’ ‘Always’, ‘White Christmas’, ‘There’s No Business Like Show Business’.

The show also includes the songs ‘I Love A Piano’, ‘How Deep Is the Ocean’, ‘Easter Parade’, ‘Change Partners’, ‘Count Your Blessings Instead Of Sheep‘ and many others.

Show 3: Sinatra at Capitol Records


A program featuring some of Sinatra’s iconic songs recorded at Capitol Records in the 1950’s.

Frank’s recording contract with Columbia Records where he recorded over a thousand songs was terminated in 1952.

Capitol Records – a new record company based in Hollywood, hired the 37-year-old Sinatra , to record some of what turned out to be his most popular hit songs.

The show includes the hit songs : ‘You Make Me Feel So Young’, ‘One For My Baby’, ‘Youngs at Heart’, ‘Love and Marriage’, ‘Come Fly With Me’ ‘The Tender Trap’, ‘In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning’, ‘Just One Of Those Things’,’ You’re Sensational’, The Lady Is A Tramp and many more.

How far is the hotel from Eastbourne station?

The Hydro Hotel is about 5 min drive from Eastbourne Train Station and about a 15-20 min walk.

How do I get from M25 to Eastbourne?

From M25 follow the M23 southbound until you join the A23 towards Brighton. Continue on the A23 turning left onto the A27 towards Lewes. Follow the A27, past Lewes until joining the A22 into Eastbourne. Follow until joining the A259, Upperton Road. At the roundabout by the railway station turn into Grove Road.

Parking

The Hydro Hotel hotel has limited on site free parking for residents. There is also free on street parking if the hotel car park is full.
